About my work

Over the years I've worked in many areas, disciplines, and series. I keep returning to the nature of awareness - and the languages of painting and abstraction. Different series have their own material and conceptual processes. They often start from chance encounters or things that are overlooked.

I use air movement, walking, crumpling, folding, re-covering, duration, repetition, and layering color and material in varied ways to make my work. The works reflect time and place. Though abstract, they’re based on close observation and usually result from many layers and stages. I try to convey moments of vividness - and a kind of layering of senses.

I'm interested in how moments and differences create unified fields - and the sensations of immediacy. Sameness and difference are very intimate. Structure and chance reflect each other. Currents and stillness move together. Distance and closeness intertwine. Details are panoramas.

I hope my work points toward these kinds of experiences.
